Silverfish Control for Homes, Libraries & Offices
Silverfish are small, wingless, teardrop-shaped insects with a metallic sheen that move with a distinctive fish-like wriggle. They are nocturnal, secretive and surprisingly destructive to exactly the things people care about most — books, documents, certificates, photographs, wallpaper, wedding albums, silk and cotton clothing, and the starch-based glue in box files and book spines. They feed on carbohydrates and protein, particularly the starch and cellulose in paper and natural fabrics.
Silverfish are also a humidity indicator. They thrive where relative humidity is high and light is low: bathrooms, basements, storerooms, wardrobes against external walls, kitchen cabinets, bookshelves and the backs of seldom-opened almirahs. NPMS treats the insects with residual crack-and-crevice application and dust formulations in voids, but we also identify the moisture problem behind the infestation, because silverfish control without humidity correction simply resets the clock.
Signs of a Silverfish Infestation
- Irregular holes, notches or grazed surface patches on book pages, documents and wallpaper
- Yellow staining and fine scale-like dust inside wardrobes, drawers and storage boxes
- Live insects appearing in bathrooms, sinks, bathtubs or behind bookshelves at night
- Damaged clothing — especially cotton, silk, linen and starched garments stored long-term
- Shed skins and tiny black pepper-like droppings in cupboard corners and along shelf edges
Our Silverfish Treatment Method
-
1
Inspection & moisture assessment
We inspect wardrobes, bookshelves, storerooms, bathrooms, skirting and false ceilings for live activity and damage, and check for damp walls, plumbing leaks and poor ventilation driving the infestation.
-
2
Crack-and-crevice residual treatment
A residual insecticide is applied precisely into shelf joints, cupboard backs, skirting gaps, wall cracks and furniture voids where silverfish shelter during the day.
-
3
Dust application in concealed voids
Insecticidal dust is injected into wall cavities, false ceiling voids, service ducts and under-cabinet spaces, where it remains effective for months without disturbing your interiors.

Humidity control & storage advice
We recommend ventilation improvements, leak repair, dehumidifier or silica gel use, and airtight storage for documents and textiles so conditions no longer favour silverfish.
Why NPMS for Silverfish Control
Silverfish jobs are usually protecting something irreplaceable — archives, legal records, rare books, heirloom textiles or a family library. Our technicians work carefully around such material, using dry dust formulations and targeted crevice application rather than broad wet spraying that could damage paper or fabric. NPMS is ISO 9001:2015 certified and liability insured, with 30+ years of experience serving homes, law firms, schools, libraries, museums, banks and record rooms across Rajasthan. All products are CIB&RC approved, low odour and safe for occupied buildings, and every job is documented with prevention recommendations.
Areas We Serve
Silverfish control services are provided in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bikaner and nearby areas for homes, offices, libraries, schools, banks and record storage facilities.
Frequently Asked Questions about Silverfish Control
Are silverfish harmful to humans?
They do not bite or transmit disease, but they cause real damage to paper, books, documents, wallpaper and natural-fibre clothing, and some people react to their shed scales.
Why do silverfish appear in my bathroom?
High humidity and low light are ideal conditions for them. They often travel through drains and wall voids into bathrooms at night.
How long does silverfish treatment take to work?
Activity drops within a week, with full control usually achieved in two to four weeks. Dust treatment in voids continues protecting for several months.
Can I protect my books without chemicals in the shelves?
Yes. We treat the surrounding crevices and voids rather than the books themselves, and advise on airtight storage, ventilation and humidity control.
